Taking the Baton: Continuing Dr. Barry Duncan’s Legacy of Client Commitment and Excellence at BON
From: Jeff Reese, PhD
I am honored and excited to take the baton from Barry on September 1 and continue the values that are at the heart of BON: a commitment to clients and clinical excellence. I recognize I have big shoes to fill. If there were a Mt. Rushmore of what is now known as measurement-based care, Barry would be on it.
Having worked with Barry for nearly 20 years, I have long admired his dedication to everything he undertakes. You can always count on quality, effort, and passion. He also exemplifies the scientist-practitioner model. His ability to make research practical, accessible, and clinically relevant is remarkable. As a mentor, friend, and collaborator, he has had a profound impact on my career and has created invaluable research opportunities for me and many of my students.
Another quality I deeply admire is Barry’s loyalty. It is because of that loyalty that I have the opportunity to lead BON. I am humbled by this responsibility and view it as a legacy to uphold: ensuring that clients have a voice in their treatment and equipping therapists to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those they serve.
I am a strong believer in PCOMS. I have seen its impact through my research, in my students’ practicum experiences, and in my own clinical practice.
My goal is to both protect and expand the BON brand, a brand defined by quality, evidence-based practice, and a commitment to culturally responsive therapeutic excellence. I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and look forward to continuing to serve and partner with our clients.
